The Appalachian History, World Civilization, and Western Civilization first and second semester classes will be holding their "History 2011-2012" field trip on March 29 - March 31, 2012.  Students will be visiting the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, Virginia as well as Bethabara Park and Old Salem, both in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. As part of these location visits, students will tour an authentic restoration of a frontier community, which is staffed by "living history" costumed interpreters who describe the life and activities of the residents.

The field trip will begin with registration on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at 9:00 pm in Le Café (located on the first floor near the elevator) of the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia.  The field trip will conclude around 8:00 pm on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.

To attend the field trip, a student's parent or legal guardian must complete, sign, and return to the Governor's School, with all documents received at the Governor's School Office no later than Monday, March 5, 2012, the following:

Also, a check made out to Linwood Holton Governor's School for the amount of $50.00 must be included with the above completed forms. DO NOT SEND CASH, MONEY ORDER, or CASHIER's CHECK.  (The deposit is returned if the student honors their trip reservation.)

To allow sufficient time to secure rooms at the hotel, students must have their check and paperwork to the Governor's School by Monday, March 5, 2012 in order to participate in this field trip.
