WELCOME

This course is designed as an introduction to theories and practices in poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction.

Students will learn how to read as writers and understand how texts achieve their many linguistic and literary accomplishments. Students will develop original writing, which they will share with peers during in-class workshops and continue to revise outside of class.

At the end of the term, students select their best pieces of fiction, nonfiction, and/or poetry from the courses and submit them for publication in the Governor's School's literary journal, The Appalachian Divergent. The journal is published yearly in paperback form in addition to being distributed through the school's web site.

The next Creative Writing term begins in January 2023. To register for the class, please see your guidance counselor for enrollment requirements.
